A good office suite is available for free is called OpenOffice.org.
You can download it at http://www.openoffice.org/
They not only have a word processor, they also have spreadsheets, presentations and more! There is no need for a CD drive. This is a full open-source office suite, not just a converter.

That sucks! This is why I hate the MacBook Air
Unless you’re really technical, you’re stuck with having to get an external drive.
If you want try something…
Get a Office CD, go on another computer and use ImgBurn to rip off an ISO file, put that on your laptop, and then mount it using Daemon Tools, or extract it with WinRAR and find the setup file.
You could also install OpenOffice, an open-source program that can open microsoft files. The program is free.

Acer does not give you a download disc when you buy from them. You get whatever programs you ordered. If you did not order a word program, you don’t get one.
I ordered the ‘basic’ package and ‘wordpad’ came with it.
I would not get another Acer- I have had too much problem with both the computer AND the company itself!
Look in start/accessories to see if you have a word program.

You can download a word program online. Just do a search for a downloadable version. There are some you pay for and some are actually free. I would list some but I don’t want to be biased on what program you should use. Just know that you can download a program online.
