My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5672 WLMi, I bought it almost a year ago…two weeks ago I recall the battery life shown in the Power Management was 1.50 for a simple Word Processing condition…but suddenly this morning I see the battery can only last for 1.07…and it really does…

My question is…is this really a normal deteriorating battery? Can it be saved? Must I change into a new battery this instant? How low can the deterioration get? How much does a new battery cost?

Oh yeah, during that two week period, I charged the battery and then left it unplugged from the laptop. I used AC power most of the time, because my laptop didn’t leave my desk at all…

I have an Acer Travelmate 7512 laptop, but the pin has come loose from the inside of the DC port. Although it is still under warranty, Acer told me that it is seen as user damage and is a chargeable repair – I will investigate this but it might come to nothing. Apparently it would cost £40 to be picked up.

I then took it to a local repairman who told me that he didn’t think it would cost more than £60 to fix. Unfortunately he told me today that he couldn’t help and that I would have to send it dealer. He also thought it would cost about £240 (?!) – £40 for pickup, £80 for an initial inspection and £120 for Acer to replace the motherboard (as they don’t repair them).

Basically, I am wondering if there is a way to avoid having to fork out so much for the repairs or a new laptop by getting power some other way. Are there external battery chargers that work through ports other than DC? Or are there external battery chargers I could use to charge the battery away from the laptop?
