I’m trying to help a friend install a new copy of XP. His Acer notebook comes installed with Vista. I want to make his computer a dual-boot system, or at worst, remove Vista, reformat the whole hard drive and start anew. The problem is that when I boot with the XP installation disk the notebook’s hard drive is hidden. So XP installation reports there is no hard drive. If i use BartPE to boot, the notebook’s hard drive is also hidden. There must be something in the BIOS that hides the hard disk if you boot from CD-Rom or anything else other than the hard disk. But I can’t find it. I’ve experimented with the boot sequence but it makes no difference. How do I make the hard disk visible so that I can install XP? Thanks.
Tks Python. But the bios is already set to IDE0. And there is no HDD configuration option. There is no mention of choosing SATA or IDE anywhere in the bios configuration pages.

Acer Aspire 3002LCi Laptop won’t boot.?
I attempted to add additional memory. The memory stick didn’t fit so I removed the original 256 stick to compare them side by side. I saw there was a tiny difference, which was why it didn’t fit, so I replaced the original stick and closed the machine.
Now when I push the power button, the button itself lights up but nothing else happens. There is a brief sound that stops immediately then there is no CPU noise or monitor activity at all.
I removed and replaced the memory to confirm it is properly inserted. I removed the battery and replaced it to reset and make sure it’s tight.
However, in reviewing my steps in my mind, I realize I forgot to remove the battery while working with the memory! I fear I may have shorted out the motherboard, although there was no indication of it at the time.
Would there have been any spark or other indication while I was actually working on it?
Is there anything else that could be causing this machine to not work?

Can I change my windows XP boot disk to boot other computers?
I got a worm virus in another computer and need to reformat the computer.
The only disk I have comes from ACER and the other computer is a DELL.
When I use the ACER disk it stops and says this is not an ACER computer,the operation has been aborted.
Is there a way I can re-burn these ACER disks so they boot other computers?
Or am I going to have to buy a DELL Disk???
Acer Aspire One boot help.?
I had purchased an Acer Aspire One netbook and had used it for about four months before I ruined it. I wanted to multi boot Ubuntu on it just to try it out and accidently installed it over XP. I have tried to boot XP and re-install it using a USB and could not get it to work. I am planning on buy buying an external cd drive from amazon.com and burning a copy of the XP install iso onto a cd on my home computer to run with it on my netbook. The problem is in reviews for the drive they mention a disk that comes with it to install the drivers. If I wanted to boot the netbook from the USB with the cd in it would it recognize it since I don’t have an OS to install the drivers with (I have already removed Ubuntu and have a single partition unused). If needed I can install Ubuntu again from a USB flash drive to install the drivers and then boot the disk. I just need to know if this would work.
If I update my bios, will I be be able to boot from my flash memory?
I found that my bios doesn’t have the boot from USB option so, I wonder If I update my bios, will I be able to boot from my flash memory?
My computer is Acer Laptop TravelMate 4150 version, my processor is Intel pentium M 725 processor 2MB L2 Cash and 1.6 GHz.
My friends acer travelmate 4100 does not show any display at boot up but the light stays green till shutdown.?
Aside from the green light coming up and staying on when the start-up button is pressed, there are no other signs that the notebook is functional. No other signs or prompts show. What could be the problem and many thanks.
